  A question for my UK cousins: What are the different British accents?

  since i have so many brits and uk types in one place, i was wondering if you all could classify or tell me the names of the different british accents.

  i think most in the states could be grouped by region and then each region divided into regular folks and folks with cash.

  for instance in thestates, you basically have north east which is can be characterized by your classic new york or boston accents.

  im from a small backward industrial town in the north of england.

  in the 70's when i was a kid no-one had a car.

  we used to meet for field service on the street corner and have a pep rally right there, then stand in a circle and say a prayer.

  Did "BJ and the Bear" and "Sheriff Lobo" make it over there?

  I vaguely remember Bj and the Bear...cheeky title for an immature Lad like me!

  I dont recall Sheriff Lobo..but ive heard it mentioned in the Simpsons.

  Ok, here is an idea. Name a bunch of famous UK types, and classify their accents. I think that should clear it up for me.

  David Beckham=estuary/essex

  Bob Hoskins=cockney/London

  jane Leeves (frazier)oop North Mancunian (ish)

  Noddy Holder=midlands (Wolverhampton me duck)

  Ricky Gervais=slight west Country..Reading i believe.

  Hmm never thought i would hear a true Englishman sounding like a scaredy cat American Traveller!

  Ive been to Tunisia,Morroco,Egypt,Jordan,Iran and the U.A.E all in the last 3 Years and i will be honest and say i felt far more safe and indeed welcome than being in NYC,Paris,Berlin and yes london all in roughly the same period of time!
